Saddler Street Elvet Bridge and Silver Street are really the most interesting shopping streets in the older part of Durham City this is where the individual shops and cafe's are, from the market place Silver street with WH Smith The Post Office  and Tescos this street takes you down to Framwellgate Bridge and wonderful views of the river the castle and cathedral,from the market place Saddler street winds up to the cathedral passing lots of great shops Waterstones,  The Mugwump, Kemble art gallery, The Vintage clothes shop at 41

Also look out for these cafe's and restaurants in Saddler Street Vennels up the passage next to, La Spagatata Italian, Pizza Express, Bills, Hatters a small tasteful Alice in Wonderland cafe, 51 Saddler Street, Flat White Kitchen 39 Saddler Street always with ques out the door, then on the Bailly is Lebaneat always popular, you can also find  nice cafe's on Palace Green like the Alms House which is a world heritage site here is the cathedral castle and library and Cafe on the green inside the library and the undercroft cafe inside the cathedral.
